With «Look Donald!», Geoffrey Bouillot continues his examination of the world of pop art, starting with Roy Lichtenstein's famous «Look Mickey». Created using acrylic paint, the work transforms the character's head into a sculptural object, built from geometric volumes and facets, where the figure becomes a structure, almost autonomous. Between abstraction and figuration, the composition is part of a contemporary approach to pop imagery, where the icon is detached from its narrative to become a pure form.
As the artist explains: «For this series Look!, in six formats, I based myself on the characters from the famous painting Look Mickey by Roy Lichtenstein. I chose to paint their heads as objects, posed in the manner of Brancusi's Venus, entirely adapted to my language.»
