Power is a work that perfectly sums up what I love about Andrew Scott’s work: his characters never remain locked within the image. They interact with the frame, transforming it and giving the impression that the scene continues in our own space.

In Power, a child uses a magnifying glass to focus the sun’s rays onto the white frame of the work. Under the effect of the heat, the frame begins to burn, thus prolonging the action depicted in the image into the object itself. The brown part of the frame was hand-painted by Andrew Scott, which gives each copy a particular intervention by the artist.

The absence of glass is directly related to this construction. The magnifying glass, the paper, and the burnt part of the frame belong to a single scene. The frame is no longer simply there to surround the image: it becomes an essential element of the work and fully participates in its story.

That’s exactly what I love about Andrew Scott. His characters always find a way to get out of their own world to interact with the world around them. He twists the frame, breaks it down, transforms it, or burns it down, with seemingly simple ideas that are always very well thought out. You understand the scene immediately, and then you gradually discover the details that make the work so inventive.

Power also possesses that mixture of humor and nostalgia that characterizes his work. The image evokes those childhood experiences when one discovered the power of a magnifying glass in the sun, with that somewhat innocent fascination for what one could cause. Andrew Scott transforms this familiar memory into a playful, surprising, and perfectly constructed work.

With more than 2.3 million followers on Instagram, Andrew Scott has managed to make his universe known worldwide. Many visitors arrive at the gallery already knowing his work thanks to social media, Instagram, TikTok, or his appearances in the media.

His work appeals to both young and adult audiences, because it is based on universal and immediately understandable situations. When confronted with his works, the reactions are almost always the same: a smile, astonishment, and a desire to get closer to understand how everything was accomplished.

For me, Power perfectly represents the strength of Andrew Scott’s work. The idea is funny, the gesture is precise, and the interaction with the frame completely transforms the way we look at the work. It’s no longer just an image hanging on the wall: it’s a small scene that seems to continue to live before us.
