MifaMosa is the pseudonym of a French urban artist who defines himself as a «street illustrator.» His name combines Mifa, referring to family — the initial driving force behind her practice, born from works created for her grandmother — and Mosaic, for mosaics, the central medium of his work. He signs each of his interventions with three dots arranged in a triangle, a symbol of his mother, sister, and himself.
Since 2017, MifaMosa diverts the street signs illustrating them with mosaics related to their name, creating a playful and poetic dialogue between urban language and public space. His first in-situ intervention took place on June 28, 2017.
To date, he has achieved more than 300 plaques in more than one two dozen cities, mainly in Orleans, where he resides, but also in Montpellier, Blois, Tours, Lyon, Saint-Malo, Limoges, and Lille. While some of his works have been incorporated into tourist recommendations for cities like Avignon, others have sparked debate, such as a mosaic removed in Geneva at the request of the authorities.
