The Mosaist
Some collaborations begin with an unexpected encounter. The one with The Mosaist is part of those stories that mark a gallery.
I discovered his work in January 2024, at the District 13 exhibition in Paris. At that time, I was mainly presenting my own collection at the exhibition, with some artists who were particularly dear to me.
The Mosaist came to my stand to introduce his universe to me. Unfortunately, I had little time to devote to him that day, but his work immediately caught my attention. I offered to spend a few days later at the gallery to discover his works more quietly.
When he came to present his work to the gallery, the initial impression was immediate.
I still remember that first meeting: I told him that I was keeping the two works he had brought. And eventually, these first two pieces quickly found an audience.
Then the story repeated itself. Each time he returned with new works, they quickly found an audience among visitors and art enthusiasts who discovered his universe.
Very quickly, we realized that something special was happening with his universe. We then decided to go further by jointly envisioning a first Galerie Montorgueil Capsule Collection.
This first collection consisted of twelve works in the format 50 x 50 cm, each printed in ten copies, as well as a surprise piece inspired by the world of the Knights of the Zodiac.
For the gallery, this was an important step: it was one of the first major capsule collections conceived by Galerie Montorgueil, conceived as a true artistic launch with teasing, a dedicated presentation, and communication with our community.
The success was immediate: nearly 70 works were adopted in less than 24 hours.
But beyond this success, this adventure represented above all the beginning of a collaboration built over time.
In 2025, we had the pleasure of presenting a solo show dedicated to The Mosaist at Galerie Montorgueil, an exhibition that was a resounding success and confirmed the growing interest in his universe.
We also continued to present his work at various events, including at Solidart Lille in 2026, where we exhibited a selection of his works.
This collaboration has also expanded beyond the walls of the gallery with a special series offered on Artsper during the Christmas period of 2025, allowing its universe to transcend the walls of the gallery and reach a much wider audience.
We were also fortunate to share his universe with Technikart, who dedicated a very beautiful report to him as well as a several-page documentary about his career and artistic approach.
What attracted us from our first meeting was this ability to transform the mosaic and the pixel into a true contemporary artistic language.
His work is based on the meticulous assembly of small glass-paste tiles, with remarkable attention to detail and finishing. Each work requires great precision and true craftsmanship, giving his creations a particular depth and making his universe immediately recognizable.
The Mosaist also pays very personal attention to each of its pieces, especially with its hand-drawn signature in calligraphy, which completes each work and gives it a unique character.
Before being presented in a gallery, The Mosaist built part of its universe directly into the urban space, with more than 200 glass paste mosaics installed in the streets of Paris. This desire to create accessible art, visible to everyone and capable of creating a spontaneous encounter with the public, is an integral part of its artistic identity.
Behind every creation lies precise work focused on popular culture, collective memory, and those images that belong to our imagination.
Today, The Mosaist holds a special place in the gallery’s recent history. Its series of ghosts, which we regularly present, has become one of the emblematic series of its work.
Like several artists we represent at Galerie Montorgueil, The Mosaist creates a bridge between popular culture and contemporary art. It draws on references we all know to transform them into original works that are accessible and deeply connected to our time.
His story with the gallery will remain special: he is one of those artists with whom a simple encounter turned into a true artistic adventure.
But this collaboration has also become a beautiful human adventure. Since our first meeting in 2024, a special bond has developed with the artist, based on trust, exchanges, and a shared desire to develop his or her own universe.
This is also what makes our job as a gallery owner so exciting: some encounters go beyond the professional framework and become real human stories.
Discovering an artist, believing in their universe and having the chance to accompany their evolution: that’s exactly what drives us in our job as gallery owners.
