Mister Marcus
Whether he signs his paintings as ‘Mister M’, ’Marcus’ or ‘M2R’, he will answer you with malice: ’Call me Mister Marcus!’.
Born in the 70’s, Mister Marcus grew up in the Parisian suburbs. During his high school years, he experienced the explosion of hip hop and street art in France like a real blast! He kept the word, the humor, the sense of rhythm and the love for graffiti and lettering from that era…
Closer to the Rock scene, he abandoned his paint bombs to develop a more elaborate style, closer to Pop Art, incorporating his passions for music and comics. His style is recognizable in the 1he A glance … with all its squares that make up his works. As far as he can remember, he has always drawn them; and in all the moments of his life, this geometric shape has always accompanied him.
He loves throwing them onto his canvases like photos torn from an old album. He loves playing with them, manipulating them, upsetting them, piling them up… until he gives them a new meaning. He vitamins them with Pop colors, confronts them with other forms… and takes the plunge to transport them to unlikely universes.
