Joan Miró
Joan Miró was born in 1893 in Barcelona and died 90 years later in Palma de Mallorca in 1983. His Catalan origins will have a great influence through his art, in painting, sculpture, engraving and ceramics.
In 1928, the relations between the Catalan painter and the Surrealist movement were strained. Political movements intruded into the artists’ lives and created strong tensions until 1930. Some members sided with the Communist Party, while the other half preferred to fight through painting. Miró turned to collages, giant sculptures, and ceramics. To this day, he has become an emblematic figure in the history of art.
