Mobile Épicurienne
«Let us hasten to succumb to temptation, before it departs.» - Epicurus
From her slender silhouette, a voluptuous hedonist observes us with curiosity and gentleness. This "Epicurean," the final sculpture by artist Philippe Hiquily, serenely evokes the culmination of the incredible artistic journey the artist undertook throughout the 20th century. During this time, he ceaselessly explored the forms and curves of the female figure with charm, poetry, and humor, as if to better capture and extract their sensuality. A direct counterpart to the mythical sculpture "The Marathon Runner," which the artist sketched in the midst of exertion, the "Epicurean" seems, by contrast, captured in a moment of calm and pure ecstasy. Coquettish and nonchalant, she offers herself to the pleasure of the eyes, one arm raised as if to better reveal her chest. Her hand chastely caresses her delicately clasped knees, while her mind seems to wander in her dreams.
But is she truly wise, or simply relaxed and sated after indulging in pleasure and reaching climax?
