"Introducing movement is creating life," said Philippe Hiquily. The question of movement has always been an integral part of his work. Following in the vein of the mobiles and fountains he produced starting in the late 1950s, in 1963 he created a trio of monumental 12-meter-high weather vanes installed on Elviria beach (Marbella, Spain). He reinterpreted them more than 30 years later when he was commissioned by the city of Shanghai to create a monumental project for the 2010 Universal Exposition. Due to the success of this work, the artist conceived a series of weather vanes the following year, including the «Summer Weather Vane,» which was produced at a height of 5 meters. Faced with these mobile works, our relationship with sculpture is completely transformed. The aesthetic experience is no longer solely lived through contemplation, but through participation. The artist invites us to play with the work, defying the "do not touch" instructions established in cultural institutions. As part of the Art For All collection, alongside the Marathon Runner and the Epicurean, this Weather Vane is available in an accessible 18 cm high format, while retaining the poetry and magic of its monumental counterpart and, more than ever, its playful essence.
