Tan Tan Bo Communicating with Someone, Somewhere in the Universe
2026
Print
66 × 66 cm
Takashi Murakami releases his evil alter ego, Tan Tan Bo, in a new limited edition print.
Since the late 1990s, Murakami’s eclectic characters have been at the heart of his Superflat philosophy, an artistic movement characterized by the fusion between scholarly art and popular culture, as well as between traditional Japanese painting and the contemporary universes of anime and manga.
Mr. DOB is one of the artist’s most endearing characters and is often considered his alter ego. Tan Tan Bo, on the other hand, represents the darker side of him. Unstable, visceral and fraught with anguish, he forcefully reminds us that horror and joy, loss and love, darkness and beauty are always the two sides of the same coin.
The profits from this edition will help support the future of the Brooklyn Museum.
