Maurizio Cattelan resurrects his famous gold toilets stolen in a new limited edition print.
America (2016) was a fully functional toilet made of 18-carat gold, installed in the restrooms of the Guggenheim Museum and accessible to the public. In 2019, the work was stolen from the Blenheim Palace during a spectacular five-minute burglary using sledgehammers and crowbars. Neither the work nor the gold was ever recovered.
With Therapy, Cattelan revisits this iconic object with the humor and irony that characterize his work. By applying 22-carat gold leaf manually, the artist brings this lost masterpiece to life — at least in part.
This silkscreen print, enhanced with 22-carat gold leaves, is printed on Somerset Tub Sized White 310 g/m² paper, with perforations and frangé edges (deckled edges). This edition was designed as a fundraising event for the Renaissance Society of Chicago.
